Sustainable Living Programs - Green Building Contest

1st Annual Sustainable Building Contests in Southern Oregon!

SLP Sustainable Living Programs, the local provider of the National Sustainable Building Advisor Program (NaSBAP), is sponsoring two building competitions to be launched at the OR. Green Expo. The focus is to have fun and promote green building!

Contest 1. Build a small model of a sustainable building

Five Categories: For elementary, middle school, high school, adults/college level, and professionals in the building industry.

• Use any materials (recycled recommended) to build the model and display all the green features. Building model size: maximum of 2 feet by 2 feet.
• Limit to 4 team members for each entry.  Students must do their own work with minimal adult help and supervision. 

Contest 2. The greenest building in the Rogue Valley (Jackson, Josephine counties)

Two categories: Enter your existing home or commercial building project. New buildings must be completed by July 1, 2009.

• Poster boards at the Expo will display photos of the homes and commercial buildings and list the green features. Use three (4’ x 4’ or similar size) poster boards for the display.

Building Displays, Voting, Judging, and Winners will be announced at The Oregon Green Expo July 3, 4th & 5th at the Medford Armory.

Vote for your favorite model and real home only at the Expo!

The community will vote to narrow down the top three buildings in each category and then professional judges will vote for the winners from the top three choices.  Judges will visit the buildings prior to voting. Winners will also be recognized in the media.

1. Buildings & models will be judged on a point system based on all green features: Site & land use, Energy conservation, Water conservation, Use of green materials, Indoor environmental quality, and Innovation.
2. Deadline to enter is June 15th. Display or model to be finished by July 1.  
3. Prizes for the top three winners in each category.
4. Want to donate a prize for the winners?  We need prizes to award!
